“Then I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, “Whom can I send? Who will go for us?” So I said, “Here I am. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8, NCV)
I knew God called me to ministry, I just didn’t know where He would send me. I knew in my heart that I wasn’t called necessarily to another country, as much as I was called to empower people and help them understand that God truly loves and likes them.
Too many times though I was hindered from being sent because of other people’s religious beliefs, as well as my own insecurities rooted in others’ beliefs. I had to seek God on my own to hear His voice and know His direction. I had to be bold and brave, as well as humble and meek to find the freedom to be sent.
I was afraid because I felt God was calling me to ministry. I was afraid of what people would say, and of being ostracized or rejected. I was afraid of being sent, but the desire to go became stronger than the fear of people. God resonated in my heart a scripture that would not leave alone my restless heart. “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28, NLT).
I got involved with LeadHer as a co-coordinator. I fell in love with the values that LeadHer adheres to, as well as the freedom I was given to be who God called me to be. Being a co-coordinator was only one step in my LeadHer journey. God placed on my heart to volunteer at the office as well. Not only was I able to use my God-given gift with numbers for His glory, I was also able to walk in my passion for ministering to women.
Through the Send Me video teaching, I realized that God had given me the freedom to be sent. He showed me that being sent doesn’t always mean to another country. Being sent means to take that step of faith and say, “Send me Lord. I will go.” For me, that was to LeadHer. For others, it is overseas. For some, it is at home raising up a generation of culture changers. Some are sent to many different places and avenues in life. No matter where God sends a person, the privilege and honor are always in the truth we are free to be sent.
Being sent means that a person wants others to know the freedom found only in God. There is freedom in being sent by God. There is also heartache as well. Crying out a send me prayer to God is saying that His will is more important. Isn’t this journey about sharing His unconditional love and amazing grace so everyone will know Him? But they won’t know if we don’t say “Yes, Lord. Send me.”
“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!’” (Romans 10:14-15, NLT)
